In the '70s Martin introduced a new guitar case that prominently displayed the manufacturer's name in big, bold lettering right across the top. It screamed "Steal Me!" to a thief who knew what a Martin was. Keep in mind, Martin didn't have much competition in those days. The 'boutique' builder wave was just getting started, so, if a person wanted to steal a good acoustic, they were probably most interested in a Martin, and these cases made them easy to identify at a distance.
