Refinishing a Suhr Modern Satin Neck with Oil and Wax

So, I bought a Suhr Modern Satin and after more than a year of playing it for two or three hours per day  the 'satin' gave way to a sticky gloss finish anywhere your skin comes into contact with the guitar, especially the back of the neck. The problem is made worse since the company doesn't put much time into sanding these guitars (neck or body) and with a quarter-sawn grain on the back of the neck it actually feels sticky and bumpy.

I decided to try and rectify the problem by emulating the feel of my EBMM JP15 that sports an oil and wax finish. But first, there was a lot of sanding. Do this outdoors and wear a mask to avoid getting dust in your respiratory system. Seriously. Oh, and this oil and wax finish is not recommended by Suhr. They suggest "Emmet's Good Stuff." But I have not had problems with the oil and wax. Your milage may vary.

Starting with 60 grit sandpaper it took about an hour to hit bare wood all around but it took hours to really get it right and I went up to about 1000 before it was all said and done. Go slowly, don't use a lot of pressure, and don't stay on the more abrasive grades of paper for very long.

The oil and wax used are: Casey's Tru-Oil and Casey's Gun Stock Wax

I cleaned the wood with oil soap and followed these instructions for applying the oil and wax finish.

The results are fairly impressive.
