Musical Instrument Insurance

Musician's insurance is very different from your home owner's policy.

Do you need it? Well, maybe but maybe not. If you have a rather generic Strat that can be replaced with another Strat then you're probably okay with what your other insurance has to offer.

If you own some exotic custom shop Les Paul that costs multiples of what a new Les Paul Standard costs, then you might want to consider getting specific insurance because State Farm is probably going to want to replace the R9 with a $2500 guitar.

Calculate the actual replacement cost of all your gear. Your studio computer is not equivalent to just a replacement iMac or whatever. You also have specialized software on that machine and you might need to cover the expense of buying it again if you've lost a physical dongle or disks in a fire. You might have more gear that you realize. But, if your collection is just a modest heap of hobby-grade equipment, you can probably just skip it.

Here are the usual suspects. Note, these are not insurance companies per se but insurance brokers.
